Last year I saw this painting at a craft fair. It is called Light in the Valley. Without hesitation, I picked it up and with a big hopeful grin on my face, I purchased it. It would serve as a reminder of where I have been and where I was going.
God was speaking to me. I was so excited at the prospect of leaving the depths of the valley and living in the lush green pastures where He was waiting for me.
I know God was with me in the valley. He was my strength and a very present help in my time of need. I just did not want to stay there. It had been two years of sickness and surgeries. My body was weak, but my faith was strong. I needed the Good Shepherd to pull me out of the valley and bring me into the light of His love and grace.
Perhaps, today you may find yourself in a valley of sorrow. Reach out for the Shepherd’s hand, He will restore your soul, He will bring you comfort and rest.
The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Prayer – Lord, thank you for being my Savior and the Good Shepherd in my life. Your unfailing love gives me a place to rest in time of sorrow. I know Jesus, you are leading me to safe pastures. Amen.
