When the Good Shepherd calls His sheep, they hear His voice above the clamoring noise of the world. As sheep, we need only to trust the Lord and follow Him. We need Jesus, our Good Shepherd to lead and guide us, to care for us, and to protect us from the enemy. Too often we leap and follow our own plan or we follow someone else’s plan.
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. John 10:27-28 NKJV
It is the nature of sheep to be dependent on one another; defenseless against their enemies and the storms of life. They are directionless and easily distracted. Sheep have a strong flocking instinct and become agitated if they are separated from the rest of the flock. All the sheep that belong to the shepherd are of one flock.
The Lord tells us in Isaiah 53:6 that all sheep will go astray and follow their own way. Every one of us at one time or another has been lost. The shepherd searches for His lost sheep and extends His arms wide open in welcoming him home with unconditional love. They have received the blessing of having been personally cared for by the Good Shepherd. Brokenness is a gift from the Good Shepherd.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10 NKJV
